The story behind the design:
In communities across the world the seeds of peace have long been planted and the roots of the movement are taking hold. In early 2003 more world citizens joined together to protest war than at any other time in documented history. The world’s people must continue to insist that the military industrial complex is a way of the past and lasting peace will never blossom through war.

Documented History:
The hippies, yippies, black panthers and flower children of the 60’s inspired this design with their involvement in the October 1967 March and Pentagon Protest. The anti-war Pentagon Protest was a huge peaceful gathering, early Vietnam War protest and demonstration planned by the 60’s counter-culture movement.

This action was organized by the National Mobilization Committee to End the War in Vietnam, aka MOBE, radical pacifists, David Dellinger, Jerry Rubin, and Abbie Hoffman. Radical organizer, Abbie Hoffman led the Pentagon Rising rally at the Pentagon, a theatrical attempt to levitate the Pentagon and exorcise the evil demons and spirits leading the war in Vietnam.

As part of the civil disobedience at the Pentagon, hippies placed flowers in the rifle barrels of the U.S. marshals and National Reserve military soldiers and thus the military power was visually transformed to flower power. The bullets were redirected to blossoms and the Vietnam anti-war movement began gained public support.

Fast-forward a few decades and such peaceful protests have become much more difficult in the wake of 9/11 and the increase in domestic security and government power. With the government powers administered by the Patriot Act, the National Defense Authorization Act the Federal Restricted Buildings and Grounds Improved Act it is no longer legal to exercise your Right to Assemble or Free Speech in government buildings or on public or private grounds where events of “national significance” are taking place. It is also completely legal to detain American citizens without due process and without a trial. Public assembly of dissent can only take place within court-approved Free Speech Zones, usually blocks from government events like the DNC or the RNC. Unfortunately the Pentagon has taken such demonstrations even further within a Pentagon employee training manual that sites Protests as a form of “low level terrorism.” The FBI, the Ramsey County Sheriff’s office, and their paid infiltrators show a clear example of how domestic terrorism laws were implemented to eliminate dissent and peaceful protests in the 2008 arrests of the RNC Welcoming Committee in advance of the 2008 RNC. Media members, organizers, peaceful protesters, and others were arrested and charged with crimes at the 2008 RNC in St. Paul.
